Paper Cranes for Cancer Memorial: ART SHOW Reception!

  • 03/02/2019
  • 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
  • 121 Nob Hill Rd., Madison, WI 53713

The Paper Cranes for Cancer Memorial: Art Reception will offer you an opportunity to meet the artists who are participating in the show as well as enjoy some light refreshments and social time for those who are in attendance.

Approximately 38.4% of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point during their lifetimes. So many people know someone who has been or are personally affected by cancer at some point over the course of their lives. It can leave people feeling a range of emotions that are often difficult to express.

In our local community, we have some very special people who have had to endure this fight. As a way to honor and celebrate them and those who have fought like them as well as those who have stood by them in their fight, we will be spending January and February making paper cranes with the intention that they will be hung for display throughout Sanctuary.

This is where you as members of the community come in. Any member of the community is welcomed to take part in this memorial art installation. If you wish to make paper cranes, you can make them out of any size paper you like (within reason, of course. Don't bring in a 6-foot-tall crane.) and out of any colors and patterns you choose. If you are not certain about how to make paper cranes and would like help, there will be an opportunity to sit down with someone who can help you make cranes which will be announced soon. There are also instructional videos available online such as this one.

Cranes being made to include in this installation must be collected by February 24th so they can be hung by February 28th. If you would like to assist with hanging cranes, please message Valkyrian privately.

If you are not certain about how to make paper cranes and would like help,

Please Note:
Those who participate in this art installation should do so knowing that the memorial art installation will be taken down in early April and all paper cranes will be donated to Cranes for Cancer. As such we do ask that your cranes not have specific names written on them. Positive messages are certainly fine, however. Also, it does mean we won't be keeping track of who makes what cranes in order to return them. Please only send in cranes that you are alright with being passed on to Cranes for Cancer after the installation.
